Miss U.S. Supranational 2016 Alexis Sherrill
Introduction: Alexis Sherrill was crowned Miss U.S. Supranational at the International Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida on June 23, 2016. Alexis, along with 80 other international beauty queens will travel to Krynica-Zdroj, Poland to compete for the title of Miss Supranational. The finale will be held on December 2nd.
How did you get involved in pageants?
Pageantry fell into my lap one night as I was researching different ways that I could make a difference in my community. I competed in my very first pageant, Miss Raleigh Durham USA and won! After that empowering feeling, I was hooked on competing!
Why did you decide to compete for the title of Miss U.S. Supranational?
I have had many friends to compete in this system and recommend that I give it a try. At the conclusion of my second pageant Miss North Carolina USA, A sweet lady named Tava Cook approached me and we bonded immediately. Tava is the state director for Miss North Carolina US International and Supranational. She immediately became almost like a pageant mom and I thought ” If this is what competing for this system is like, I’m all in!”
When you heard your name called and put on that sash what emotions or
thought were going through your head?
Well at first, it took me a while to process that my name was even called. I mean, I was just blessed and thankful to be standing at the final two because each and everyone of those girls were amazing.Once I finally realized that I was the winner, my body went completely numb and I could barely stand up. That moment was unforgettable!
What was the first thing you did after the pageant?
The first thing I did after the pageant was celebrate with my family and best friend with some Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I figured taking home the crown and swimsuit award caused for a doughnut celebration!
What does true beauty mean to you?
True beauty is loving who you are and sharing that with others. As a young woman of God, I know that I was purposely placed here on Earth to spread the love of God. We all know that this world could use a lot more of that.
What are you looking forward to during your reign?
Touching lives is what I look forward to most. Many people look at titleholders and think that we are just pretty girls with crowns but our hearts pour out into these titles. I look forward to using my title to be a leader, motivator and game changer for all women.
What’s been your favorite moment so far as Miss U.S. Supranational?
My favorite moment thus far has to be the back to school book bag drive I helped out with. A
few friends of mine own a company that hosts prestigious events in the North Carolina Area called “Elevate The Way You Indulge”. They take a portion of their proceeds and give back to the community. This book bag drive in particular was most memorable because as I helped pass out book bags and school supplies to the community, I was reminded of how blessed I am and how much I can sometimes take for granted.
What are you looking forward to at Miss Supranational? Are you getting excited about Poland?
There are about 80 girls from 80 different countries and I look forward to learning all about the culture from each of the countries. I Can’t wait to form strong bonds with incredible women from all over that will last a lifetime. Excited is an understatement!
Who are your heroes?
I have two heroes, and the first is my track coach from College, Marino Drake. From the first time I met him, he has always told me to remember that ” No one is better than me”. He meant this in no way for me to be cocky but to remind me that I am my only competition and that has motivated me to work so hard. My second hero is our current first lady, Michelle Obama. This woman carries all of the qualities I look up to, she’s strong, she’s bold, and she is inspiring. I first heard her speak at my HBCU a few years ago, and her words pushed me to go after my dreams.
What should every woman try at least once in her life?
Every woman should have the audacity to be bold at least once in her life! For me, all it took was one bold step towards my dreams and since then, I have been unstoppable.
Who is your celebrity crush?
John Legend just has a way with my heart that makes me melt from the inside out. His music reminds me of the fairy tale love I pray to find one day..soon! lol
What’s your one biggest pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve is people who smack when they eat their food. To me, its just as annoying as hearing nails scratch against a chalk board.
What’s do you like most about the holidays?
I love how the spirit during the holidays has a way of bringing people together in love! Christmas is my personal favorite and I go all out with the Christmas tunes!
Describe yourself in two words?
I am resilient and I am powerful!
What makes you laugh?
I have found that children make the best comedians. I am a pre school teacher and I love being in the same space as young children. I promise, you can’t go ten minutes without laughing when their is a child in the room.
What item in your closet do you wear the most?
I love boots so they definitely get the most attention! I love how you can wear boots with anything whether it’s dressy or casual!
What is one item you can’t live without?
I’ll be honest and say that my cell phone is my best friend! I literally have everything saved on my iPhone and I often get teased about how many photos I have! I’m big on capturing every moment so my gallery is already full!!
